Annanwater Organics

Annanwater Organics was started in 2007 by Sarah and Stephen Burchell. We sell our own excellent organic blackface and blackface-cross lamb and mutton direct to the public, through farmers markets and to local restaurants.

Our sheep are all born and bred on the hills overlooking Upper Annandale and on our linked upland unit in Annan Water, north of Moffat. The meat, slowly grown, on clovery meadows and herb rich hill land, has a deep rich taste.

The Farms

We have farmed at Upper Minnygap for 20 years. It is a remote hill farm lying in the foothills of Queensberry, adjoining the Ae Forest and overlooking the Moffat Hills. In 2001 we took on our linked farm Meiklholmside in Annan Water and converted to organic management of both the farms. The farms are organically certified with the Scottish Organic Producers Assciation       (SOPA)

Our Sheep

Our sheep are all born and bred on these two farms. The sheep are free range and raised under organic management, which ensures high welfare standards and allows the sheep to mature naturally. They grow slowly on clovery meadows and herb rich hill land. They are slaughtered locally, with no stressful long journeys.

Our Meat

We believe that this method of farming and the fact the meat is hung for 10 days is why our meat has the deep rich taste which our customers love.

The meat is butchered and vacuum packed by the organically certified butchery at Askerton Castle.

We sell a wide range of cuts of fresh Mutton Hogget and Lamb (depending on season) at local farmers markets each week. We also have a good range of frozen cuts available at all times.

How to buy from us

You can find us at Farmers Markets in Moffat, Dumfries, Lockerbie, Langholm and New Cample,Thornhill and Stockbridge in Edinburgh to select your choice of fresh cuts. You can visit the farm and buy our frozen meat or you can order by phone or by email. If visiting, please phone first to ensure we are there for you.

We will deliver free for any order in Moffat and for larger orders further afield, or we will send by mail order.
